Homecoming Preview
This Saturday, Oct. 17 the Kalamazoo College football team welcomes Alma College to Angell Field for its annual homecoming game.
Last week Alma was blown-out by MIAA powerhouse Trine 51-14 in its own homecoming game and looks to be the spoiler to the Hornets.
Kalamazoo has lost 8 of its last 11 homecoming games and hasn’t beaten Alma since 2005.
Both offenses are committed to the passing game and are vulnerable on defense as they give up 31 points per game to their opponents.
The matinee matchup figures to be close as both squads are 1-1 in MIAA play and have dropped two games on the season.
Women’s Soccer
The Kalamazoo College women’s soccer team looks for its first home win this Saturday, Oct. 17 at noon against Olivet College.
The Hornets look to avenge a 3-2 overtime loss to Olivet late last season and continue their strong play in-conference.
Kalamazoo (4-5-3 overall/2-1-1 MIAA) and Olivet (4-8-1 overall/0-3 MIAA) have similar records entering the match, but have had very different results against conference opponents.
The Lady Hornets are fresh-off a resilient effort against nationally-ranked Calvin College and are 2-1-1 in the MIAA, while Olivet has lost all three of its conference matches in a 10-1 aggregate.
Cross Country
The women’s and men’s cross-country teams compete in the Manchester Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 17 in Manchester, Indiana.
Both teams are recovering from early-season injuries and look to improve on past performances as the MIAA and NCAA championships draw closer.
The women compete in their first 6k race of the season and look to adjust to the longer distance and lower temperatures.
The men’s team has recovered runners Ben Cooper K’10 and James Kirschner K’13 from pre-season injuries and looks forward to their contribution to an improving team.
The men’s and women’s cross-country teams placed 14th and 12th, respectively, last week at the Michigan Intercollegiate meet, which included teams from Divisions I, II, and III.
