Women's Soccer Battles Briton to a Tie

Monday, October 19, 2009

The Kalamazoo College women’s soccer team fought through some dreary conditions to a 1-1 tie at home against Albion on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Despite the incessant rain and bone-chilling cold, the Hornets managed to get some promising runs going in the first half.

The sloppy field did not lend itself to precise soccer but forwards Jackie Short K’13 and C.J. McCarthy K’13, along with co-captain Katie Manstrom K’10 kept the pressure on the Britons throughout the entire game.

The Britons scored 11 minutes into the second half on a scorcher by Rachel Kain. The Hornets kept swarming forward and their persistence paid off with a brilliant score by McCarthy with just five minutes left in the second half. This was her team-leading 6th goal of the year.

The team was unable to continue their momentum into Saturday, when they suffered a 2-1 loss at Calvin College (undefeated in the MIAA). Kalamazoo returns to action at Hope on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
